Sligo County Council
Sligo County Council (SCC) is the Local Authority for County Sligo. Sligo County Councils mission is to maximise economic, social, cultural and community development, deliver efficient and cost effective services in a democratic, accountable and transparent manner in partnership with local communities, voluntary and statutory agencies.
SCC comprises three Municipal Districts, the Borough District of Sligo, the Municipal District of Sligo and the Municipal District of Ballymote – Tubbercurry.
The work programme of the SCC is delivered in five Directorates:
- Planning, Community & Economic Development;
- Housing & Corporate Services;
- Infrastructure, Environment and Fire Services;
Under the Directorate of Infrastructure, Environment and Fire Services, the Sligo National Road Project Office (SNRPO) is responsible for the delivery of all major and minor national road improvement and realignment schemes in County Sligo. The N4 Collooney to Castlebaldwin Road Project is being progressed by the SNRPO, with the support of Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII).
Planning for this road began more than 20 years ago and a preferred route was initially selected in 2002. The SNRPO prepared all the statutory documents In-house, and in 2014, An Bord Pleanála approved planning for the Scheme with no modifications. This enabled the SNRPO to undertake advance works such as fencing, archaeological investigation, house demolition, ground investigation and diversion of overhead power cables, etc. It also enabled land purchase to commence. The Scheme involved the acquisition of 181.5 hectares of land (135 landowners) including fourteen dwelling houses.
The National Road Project Office of Sligo County Council are now managing the delivery of the construction phase of the Project and have engaged Barry Transportation Ltd. to undertake the role of Employers Representative on site. Following an extensive tendering process, Roadbridge Ltd. has been appointed to deliver the detailed design and construction phase of the Project.
The National Road Project Office of Sligo County Council look forward to working with all Parties concerned in the delivery of this much needed national road infrastructure.
